About Esther

Hi, I'm Esther, a Canadian pianist, composer and singer-songwriter, and educational speaker currently living in Calgary with my husband and two children.

Born and raised in Malaysia, I’ve carried stories across oceans since I was 17. Music has always been my compass — from the piano keys of childhood to the songs I write today. Stories fascinate me. Through my music, I explore healing, belonging, and the quiet strength found in our shared human stories.

Having lived the life of an immigrant, writing music has allowed me to express deep wounds, paving the path of my own healing. As an artist, my passion is to share that same journey and connection with others.

My work is sincere and exploratory in all genres. without limiting to specific genres. It promises songs that sparkle with innocence and unshaken hope; heartfelt storytelling in song, and inventive, caring music that bring the stories of people and social topics to light.

A brief, quiet moment in my home this morning— perfect for me to steal some alone time at the piano.

It’s been a while since I played this song! When I was 15 years old, I bought a piano book at the bookstore my family regularly frequented. It was filled with many love songs, and I was drawn to this particular song.

Each time I wandered off from my actual piano practice homework, I would just open this book and figure out how to play these songs on my own. Way more fun! 🤭

And when my dad was in a good mood, he would sneak a hum or sing along to it.

I am so grateful to have met so many kind clients this season, who enjoy and appreciate live piano music this way. Growing up, my friends used to tease me by calling me “ancient” because of the old songs I listen to. For a very long time, I never felt like I fit in. It has been a dream come true to be able to share easy-listening pop music on piano, lovely ballads, songs of my childhood, songs that bring me down memory lane.

I’ve been learning new songs as well. Honestly, there’s so many songs, I do not know it all. Meeting new people and learning about them has been very rewarding and I look forward to more :)
